19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

The win also means he has won 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on court had caused some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
