Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
